Vegan Egg Substitutes


Wanting to jump on the vegan baking train?


Here are a few alternatives you can use in place of an egg

 

Ground flaxseeds


*1 tbsp flax with 3 tbsp water = 1 egg equivalent 


Mix then let sit for a few minutes to thicken


Purpose: to bind


Best for healthy baking, muffins, cakes, pancakes, and cookies.


 

Chia seeds 


*1 tbsp chia with 3 tbsp water = 1 egg equivalent

Mix then let sit for a few minutes to thicken

Purpose: to bind

Best for healthy baking, muffins, cakes, pancakes, and cookies.


 

Mashed banana


*1 mashed banana = 1 egg equivalent

Mash and add to mixture

Purpose: to provide moisture and sweetness


Best for cookies, muffins - will provide banana taste


 

Aquafaba (chickpea brine)

*3 tbsp = 1 egg white equivalent  

Save brine from tinned chickpeas for use

Purpose to bind and use in whipping


Best for foods requiring lighter texture such as meringues, mousse and brownies.
